Paul Hoffman

One morning I was in Seacliff, up on the bluff overlooking the cement ship, when up the trail bounded a jacked, shirtless Sequoia, a familiar sight after going to high school with him all those years. We had a little chit-chat and puff-puff, and somehow the conversation turned to food. Sequoia said something that I’ve never forgotten, mostly because of how simple it was and how perfectly it captured what really matters at the end of the day:

“If I got bread, I’m fed.”

It was such a Sequoia thing to say. All these years later, I still repeat it every once in a while when the occasion fits. To me, it became a little reminder from Sequoia to keep it simple, appreciate what you have, and keep your expectations real.
Rest easy, old friend.
