In Loving Memory of Sequoia Evleshin

1971 – 2026

Sequoia lived large and left an impression on the people who knew him. Born in Big Sur, California, he carried a little of that wildness with him throughout his life. He followed in his father’s footsteps to become a lawyer, driven not simply by the profession, but by a genuine desire to help people when they needed someone in their corner. He cared deeply about health and fitness, loved the outdoors, and was happiest among the redwoods. But for all his seriousness and determination, Sequoia never entirely grew up, in the best possible way. He loved video games, wrestling with his kids, laughing, playing and not taking himself too seriously. His life wasn’t always an easy one, and he faced his share of battles, but he loved deeply and found his greatest joy in the people closest to him. He was a father, husband, friend, advocate and, at heart, still a little bit of that wild kid from Big Sur. He was complicated, funny, determined, generous and very much his own person. He will be deeply missed.

Everyone who knew Sequoia knew a different part of him. A different story, a different time in his life, a different reason to laugh, and probably a few things that drove them crazy.

This is a place to bring those pieces together. To collect the stories, photographs, adventures, ordinary moments and memories that made Sequoia who he was.

If you knew Sequoia, please add your piece of his story.

  • If I got bread, I’m fed

Paul HoffmanOne morning I was in Seacliff, up on the bluff overlooking the cement ship, when up the trail bounded a jacked, shirtless Sequoia, a familiar sight after going to high school with him all those years. We had a little chit-chat and puff-puff, and somehow the conversation turned to food. Sequoia said something that…

  • He was cool enough not to care, but he did anyway…

Mike GaringI have not seen Sequoia since high school, but he has forever stayed in my memory as someone with the moral character and integrity to stand up for me and for others, even when he didn’t have to. I will always appreciate his willingness to see that he could be a protector to someone…

    38 Years

Most everyone knows the story, but I’ll memorialize it here. I met and fell in love with Sequoia when I was in high school. We dated off and on throughout the years, and finally married in 2004. We had many good years together, and then we didn’t. We were friends at the beginning and somehow…
